Today at 4:45 p.m., Great Bend High School’s softball team will begin its voyage into the postseason.
The Lady Panthers, which won a three-way coin toss to be a Class 5A regional No. 2 seed, hosts a regional tournament at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
The festivities begin at 3 p.m. when No. 3-seeded Hays challenges Goddard-Eisenhower, which is the No. 6 seed.
Great Bend challenges seventh-seeded Liberal at 4:45.
“The girls are really excited,” GBHS head coach Carrie Minton said. “They’re ready to get out there and play. We’ve had a few rough spots lately, but we know that we’ve been playing good competition and we’re confident in the way we’ve played.”
Great Bend comes in with a record of 16-4 after splitting a doubleheader with Hutchinson to close out the regular season.
The split caused a three-way tie between Great Bend, Hays and Maize South, all of which had a record of 16-4.
Great Bend won the coin toss to host the tournament.
“We’d had a rough week,” Minton said. “It was nice that things finally started to look up. We got the luck of the draw. It was a bright spot.
“We feel lucky that we have a game or two more at home this season. It’s always nice when you can play at home late in the year..”
Liberal is 0-18 this season, and Eisenhower is 10-10.
