LARNED —Kelsey Parr converted a trio of 3-pointers and the Indians limited Hoisington to 19 percent shooting with 19 turnovers in a 34-25 basketball victory Monday in the Gene Keady Classic.
The Indians (2-0) play Spearville in Friday’s semifinals.
Larned edged to a 20-15 halftime advantage behind Parr’s 10 first-half points as both teams struggled shooting. Hoisington could manage three fourth-quarter points. Larned wasn’t much better, netting five points in this offensive struggle.
Larned coach Ashley Crosby said, “ we got good shots but just couldn’t seem to get them down but I was very pleased with our defense, our scrappiness and the way we rebounded. We talked at halftime about needing to rebound and the girls responded.”
Larned shot 29 percent from the field and was 6 of 12 from the charity stripe.
Hoisington was held to 19 percent shooting and canned 5 of 9 free throws.
Kelsey Parr led Larned in scoring with 12 points and Haley Skelton chipped in six and Erin Smith and Baylea Perez five each.
Hoisington was led in scoring by Emma Harmon with six while Jocelyn Pedigo and Brooke Reif added four apiece. The Cardinals play Ellinwood at 5:30 p.m Thursday.
Larned advances in the winners bracket and will take on Spearville, a 50-42 winner over Ellinwood.
