HAYS — The start for the Great Bend girls basketball team was perfect. Carley Brack scored eight first-quarter points for a 9-2 Panther lead.
But Class 6A Manhattan forced a 14-14 tie by the end of the first period and overpowered the Panthers 62-38 in the Hays City Shootout. The Panthers return to Hays Middle School Friday for a 3:30 p.m. second round game against Olathe North.
Veteran Brack was rock soild with a 20-point effort fueled by six free throws and a pair of 3-pointers. Carly Dreiling added six points and Keely Ireland chipped in five points.
Manhattan’s Kisa Wilson and Haleigh Harper each scored 13 points.
