BUHLER — Nothing comes easy during the high school basketball season.
The Great Bend boys found that out on Tuesday night, going into double overtime to beat Buhler on the road 77-68.
“Our kids played extremely hard,” Panthers head coach Chris Battin said. “They gave great effort.”
Neither team took a dominant lead during regulation.
“It was back-and-forth the whole game,” Battin said. “It was a game of runs. They’d go on a run, and then we’d go on a run. They had the lead with about seven seconds left, and we called a timeout.
“We drew up a play and they executed perfectly. Kody (Crosby) put in the shot for two points to tie it up and send it into overtime.”
Crosby finished with a team-leading 27 points.
Senior Bryce Beck pumped in 19 points for the Panthers.
“They both shot the ball very well,” Battin said. “We were able to hit free throws down the stretch. Beck has been a good free-throw shooter for us all season, and he knocked in some shots. Kody knocked in some free throws for us, too.”
Great Bend, which is 6-10 overall, hosts Garden City on Friday night.
