MANHATTAN — It wasn’t the season’s best outing for Great Bend High School’s boys’ swimming team.
The Panthers finished fifth in the five-team field at the Manhattan swim meet on Wednesday, but GBHS head coach Steve Beaumont said there were still a lot of positives to take away.
“We swam really well,” Beaumont said. “We’re just a real young team. We had several freshmen swimming in each event. One of our top swimmers was out with an injury. It was a combination of things, really.”
Beaumont said that it was beneficial for the freshmen to get experience against solid competition, finishing with 180 points. Manhattan won the meet at 348.
“It does help us to see schools we don’t usually see,” Beaumont said. “It was real pleased with how our kids responded. We moved some kids to new events they haven’t swim in before. They did a pretty good job.”
