BUHLER — Coming off a sweep of their home tennis invite, the Great Bend High School Panthers nearly swept the competition at Buhler Invitational on Monday.
The Panthers finished in first place, and all but one player finished in first place individually.
“I think we did pretty well,” GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. “That one match we lost was right off the bat. Austin (Jacobs) lost to a kid that took fourth place at (the Class 4A state meet) from Buhler last year.
“After that, our No. 1 doubles struggled with Buhler, so that could have been better, but everything got better after that.”
Great Bend No. 1 singles player Jacobs fell to Buhler 8-2, but won his other three matches for second place.
Nick Moyers and Chase Buntain swept the No. 1 doubles competition. Their only close match was an 8-6 victory over Buhler.
Grant Harris, Great Bend’s No. 2 singles player, didn’t allow his opponent more than two games in any match.
Adam Neeland and Ramon Garcia swept the No. 2 doubles field for first place.
