Pittsburg Colgan wins 18th state baseball title

Pittsburg Colgan shut out Little River 4-0 Friday to capture the school’s 18th state baseball championship in Friday’s Class 2-1A state tournament at Great Bend’s Sports Complex.
Colgan pitcher Drew Dawson threw a six-hit shutout and worked out of a bases-loaded seventh inning. Dawson also threw a shutout in last year’s 10-0 title game victory over Silver Lake.
Centerfielder Colton Gilbert threw out Cordell Moore at home plate in the fourth inning after Moore’s single and Laramie Peters’ double. Catcher Ryan Cedeno threw out Zack Konen in the first inning.
Aaron Twarog’s single drove in Colton Gilbert in the first inning after a walk, stolen base and groundout.  Two Little River errors gave the Panthers two sixth-inning runs. Ryan Cedeno singled in Christian Cedeno and scored on an error. Christian Cedeno’s single scored Tully Yoakam in the seventh
Colgan beat unbeaten and top-seeded Udall 10-2 in the semifinals behind Chase VanBecelaere. Nate Brown drove in three runs with three hits. Colton Gilbert had three hits.
Little River rallied from a 2-1 deficit for a 7-2 victory over Troy in the semifinals. Tevin Renken’s double tied the game. Cordell Moore’s two-run single a 4-2 lead. Moore hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Renken struck out eight batters in three innings.
Three of four first-round games were shutouts. Udall beat Dexter-Cedar Vale 4-0. Little River beat Elkhart 5-0. Colgan downed Mission Valley 4-2. Troy blanked Ellis 5-0.  Pittsburg Colgan captured the Class 3A state baseball championship last year.
