St. John claims fifth straight title at Gene Keady Classic

LARNED — Most Valuable Player Cole Kinnamon led St. John’s balanced offense with 15 points as the Tigers beat Spearville 47-36 for their fifth consecutive Gene Keady Basketball Classic championship. St. John's Jorge Calleros and Chase Fisher also earned All-Tournament honors.
The No. 1 ranked Tigers trailed 18-10 in the second quarter before closing the first half on a stunning 12-1 run for a 22-19 halftime lead. The Tigers outscored the Royal Lancers 37-18 after trailing 18-10. Jorge Calleros scored six points and Triston Long, Alexis Valenzuela and Chase Fisher scored two apiece during the 12-1 run.

Macksville’s All-Tournament Jacob Rein scored 18 points and Brigdon Russell added 14 points and the Mustangs beat Hoisington 53-46 for third place in the Keady Basketball Classic. The Mustangs made four 3-pointers.
Alex Schremmer led Hoisington with 15 points and Cameron Davis added 11 points.

All-Tournament Frank Cuevas scored a tournament high of 34 points to spark Kiowa County past Ellinwood 61-54 for third place in the Keady Basketball Classic. The Mavericks outscored the Eagles 36-28 after halftime.
Ellinwood’s All-Tournament Tyson Martinez scored 22 points and Nathan Monday added 13 points.

The Mavericks scored 21 points in the fourth period. Becken VandenHoek also made the All-Tournament team.

Spearville's All-Tournament Brooke Offerle scored 25 points. All-Tournament Ehlaine Hartman added 11 points.
