ST. JOHN 42, MACKSVILLE 32

MACKSVILLE – The St. John Tigers played perfect defensive basketball for 12 minutes during a shocking 21-0 scoring run en route to a 42-32 substate basketball victory over Stafford County rival Macksville. The Tigers (8-13) play Pretty Prairie (13-6) in Friday’s Norwich basketball substate.

Macksville led 17-9 with 5:30 left in the first half. But the Tigers held the Mustangs scoreless for 12 minutes during a stunning 21-0 run for a 30-17 lead with 1:30 left in the third period. Elijah Delp scored 12 points, Toby Woolf four points, Calleros three and Hunter Smith two points during the streak.

Delp dominated the paint with 15 points and five blocked shots. Calleros hit a trio of 3-pointers and supersub Preston Dunn chipped in nine points.

Macksville’s Rogelio Ibarra scored 10 points and Ryan Kuckelman added nine points in a hustling effort. The Mustangs (13-7) beat the Tigers 51-49 during the league finale.

CLAFLIN –  Tyler Holmes scored 18 points to lead a trio of Central Plains Oilers in double figures in a dominating 72-48 substate basketball victory over Lost Springs-Centre Friday. Dylan Kitchen scored 14 points and Peyton Ryan added 11 points. The Oilers (5-15) led 48-29 at halftime. The Oilers play Peabody (10-8) March 5 at Peabody.

RANSOM –  Western Plains standout Bryan Buffington scored 23 points and Tim Hair scored 17 points to spark the Bobcats past Otis-Bison 62-53 in Friday’s Dighton basketball substate.

Otis-Bison’s Dalton Regan scored 18 points and Jayce Kohls added 17 points in an inspired effort.
