Great Bend state qualifiers Cailee McMullen (103) and Kaylee Reiser (104)) earned state golf berths at Hays Thursday.

HAYS – Great Bend’s Cailee McMullen (103) and Kaylee Reiser (104) qualified for the 5A state golf championship in Thursday’s 5A golf regional at Smoky Hill Country Club. It’s the second 5A state appearance for both girls.

“We’re pleased to qualify two players for the 5A State Tournament at Hesston Golf Park Monday," said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. "Cailee McMullen and Kaylee Reiser have been the scoring leaders all season and they will represent GBHS. I expect them to represent us in a positive way.”

Maize South (366), Hays High (398) and Maize High (400) qualified teams for the 5A state tournament. Great Bend (455) finished fifth with 28th Ashlynn Harbaugh, 62-55—117; 34th Alysson Kaiser, 62-69—131; and 34th Grace Soupiset, 66-65—134 counting in the team score. Kirsten Miessler (72-65—137) finished 37th.

Maize South's Brittney Wessley (90) earned medallist honors.

"Our team score was up today playing on a difficult, wet golf course.," said McAtee. "We knew going in that qualifying as a team was going to be a difficult task with three quality teams in the field."
