Local 4Hers start air rifle competitions

On Saturday, Jan. 14, four Barton county 4H’ers traveled to Sedgwick county for the first 4H air rifle competition of the season. In the 12 year old and younger division, Katelyn Reh from Ellinwood finished 3rd. In the 13 and 14 year old division, Ryan Kohman from Great Bend finished 3rd and Lake Lyman from Ellinwood finished 5th. In the 16 to 18 year old division, Jake Kohman from Great Bend finished 6th. The Barton county team, that was made up of Jake, Lake, Ryan and Katelyn, finished 3rd out of five county teams that were entered in the competition. All the Barton county participants qualified for the state competition that will be held in April. They did so by scoring over 350 points out of 600 possible as individuals.
On Saturday, Feb. 11, Barton county 4H’ers traveled to Edwards county for the 2nd 4H air rifle competition of the season. In the 11 year old and younger division, Katelyn Reh was 1st with 457 points out of a total of 600 possible. Will Clarke from Great Bend placed 2nd with a score of 349 points. In the 12 year old division, Kyle Clasen from Great Bend placed 2nd with a score of 409 points. In the 13 year old division, Lake Lyman placed 1st with a score of 437 points and Caleb Straub from Great Bend placed 3rd with a score of 318 points. In the 14 and 15 year old division, Thomas Thill from Great Bend placed 6th with a score of 403 points. In the 16 to 18 year old division, Jake Kohman placed 3rd with a score of 467 points. The Barton county team of Jake Kohman, Lake Lyman, Kyle Clasen and Katelyn Reh placed 2nd.
The next competition will be the Barton County Winter Classic that will be held at the Expo Grounds west of Great Bend on February 18th. The 1st match starts at 9 a.m. with a 2nd match at 11 a.m.
