The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development recently recognized the efforts of five individuals who will finish their service to the Barton County Young Professionals Steering Committee at the end of 2014.
“Our Young Professionals program is overseen by Chamber staff, but all the decisions and guiding principles are set forth by a steering committee of volunteers representing numerous industries in Barton County,” said Chamber Marketing Coordinator Rachel Mawhirter. “We are extremely grateful for the service of all our volunteers, and are pleased to recognize these five individuals who will retire from the Steering Committee this month.”
Outgoing volunteers include Aaron Andrews with Community Bank (served 2011-2014), Christina Hayes with the City of Great Bend (served 2012-2014), Tina Mingenback with Cherry Village (served 2012-2014), Amanda Fellers with Rosewood Services (served 2013-2014), and Brian Ewing with Eagle Radio (served 2014).
The Barton County Young Professionals program was founded in 2011, and has grown from 100 members to nearly 700 members in just three years.
“The steering committee and our sub-team volunteers are responsible for this immense growth,” Mawhirter said. “If it wasn’t for their efforts to spread the word, invite new members to join, and engage the businesses in support of YP projects, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
The BCYP program is open to anyone 21-40 who lives or works in the Barton County area. Individuals can join at any time by emailing bartonyp@gmail.com with their full name, employer, email address and phone number to be added to the database and start receiving invitations. At this time, there is no fee charged to join thanks to sponsorships provided by local businesses. The group meets at least once per month for networking mixers, family friendly socials, community impact projects, leadership luncheons and other special events.
