When Jeff Thummel was working for a company in Salina, he heard a lot of talk about a place called Office Products Inc. (OPI). And, he said, all the talk was good.
Thummel was curious about OPI and one thing led to another. He is now a service technician for the company he had been hearing about. Thummel has been a Canon certified technician since 2005 and in the industry for almost 30 years.
“While working for a direct competitor, I constantly heard about OPI,” Thummel said. “Everybody was saying that it provides great customer service. Now I know what they were talking about.”
The new addition to the OPI staff maintains and repairs copiers and other multi-functional equipment. This includes Canon color, as well as black-and-white copiers.
“I have been in the industry since 1987,” Thummel said. “This background includes roughly 30 copier-training schools sponsored by many different manufacturers including Canon, Minolta, Sharp, Ricoh and Savin.”
His educational background also includes an electronics degree from NCK Tech in Beloit.
Originally from Phillipsburg, Thummel now lives in Hays. This gives him easy access to a number of communities in OPI’s northern service area, which includes Hays, Russell, Ellsworth and other cities between I-70 and Great Bend.
His customers include businesses of all sizes, as well as individuals; he services machines on-site or at OPI, depending on the particular circumstances.
Willie Spires, OPI service manager, said Thummel’s decades of experience and his certifications make him a valuable asset to the team.
“Jeff is able to service a wide variety of copiers, along with wide-format printers, laser printers, fax machines and other office equipment,” Spires said. “He also is knowledgeable about networking functions, such as printing and scanning.
“Jeff is an excellent technician and a great addition to our service department and the OPI family,” he added.
OPI is located at 1204 Main in Great Bend, 516 Broadway in Larned, and 724 N. Main in Russell.
