KDHE shows 2,037 COVID-19 cases for Barton County
County reports fewer active cases

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Barton County as of Friday morning was 1,904, County Administrator Phil Hathcock reported. This was an increase of 62 cases since Friday, Dec. 11. The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 was unchanged at 19.

In a separate report, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (coronavirus.kdheks.gov) showed Barton County with 2,037 total cases as of 9 a.m. Friday.

To date, 6,233 quarantine or isolation orders have been issued and 309 of those were active Friday, according to the county information. The number of active COVID-19 cases was 129, down from 193 a week earlier. The total cases include 815 males and 1,089 females.

The 62 new cases included 26 males and 36 females. One resides in Albert, eight in Ellinwood, 44 in Great Bend, three in Hoisington and six in rural Barton County.

The total cases by residence, followed by the number of currently active cases, follows:

Great Bend schools

Great Bend USD 428 reported the following new cases since Dec. 11:

On Wednesday, Dec. 16, a student at Great Bend Middle School and a student at Eisenhower Elementary tested positive. There were no close contacts at either school requiring additional quarantines.

On Thursday, a student at Great Bend High School tested positive; 11 close contacts were traced. A staff member at GBHS tested positive and there were two close contacts. A student at GBMS tested positive and there were two close contacts.


Statewide

KDHE reports there have been 200,426 COVID-19 cases statewide as of 9 a.m. Friday. This resulted in 6,175 hospitalizations and 2,341 deaths. There were 5,857 new cases, 88 new deaths and 125 new hospitalizations reported since Wednesday, Dec. 16. There have been 730,380 negative tests.

Totals for counties surrounding Barton were: Ellsworth, 983; Pawnee, 888; Rice, 685; Rush, 323; Russell, 679; and Stafford, 255.

The Pawnee County Health Department posted its last weekly COVID-19 report on Tuesday, Dec. 15. The Department reports 72 cases identified in the last 14 days and 29 in the last seven days. There are 37 active cases. The county reports 407 total cases for the community, excluding long-term care patients and individuals at Larned State Hospital and the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility.
