Walter and Florence Mai, of Great Bend, will celebrate their 70th anniversary on Oct. 9 with a family get-together in Russell.
Florence Oline Nuss and Walter Adam Mai were united in marriage on Oct. 7, 1941 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. After World War II, they settled in Great Bend where they’ve resided since. The couple has two sons, Walter Allen Mai and Julie Mitchell of Houston, Texas, and Daryl Lynn Mai and wife Libby of San Antonio, Texas. The couples’ daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth (Duryee) passed away in 2004. They have eight grandchildren, Darren, Melissa (Haire), Chad, Curtis, Jason, Nathan, Bradley Duryee, and Dustin Duryee; and 11 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Mason, Hudson Haire, Hayden Haire, Inez, Aubrey, Blake, Mallory, Garret, Claire, and Tyler Duryee.
