Bethany College Music Department presents its Choirs and Handbell Concert at 7:30 p.m. on April 23, in the Presser Hall Auditorium. The free concert is open to the public and will feature works that the choir will perform on their upcoming European Tour from May 1-13. They will be traveling to Ireland, England, and Sweden.

The choir, directed by Mark Lucas, Associate Professor of Music, will perform many works, including “Four Motets” by Aaron Copland, “Lacrimosa” and “Dies Irae” from Mozart’s “Requiem,” and “Lord Don’t Move the Mountain,” arranged by Dan Masterson, Professor of Music.

The handbell choir, directed by Tyler Boehmer, visiting assistant professor of music, will join the choir for this special home performance.

The choir is scheduled to perform at venues such as Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, the oldest church in Ireland, during the tour. The choir will also be meeting with Anna Bornander, Class of ‘97, who has an orchestra in Vänersborg, Sweden.

“It’s exciting for me to see how much great work Dr. Masterson did with the choir while I was on sabbatical,” Lucas said. “The students are good kids who work hard, and they deserve any accolades they receive. I always say that tours are the living embodiment of the mission of the college. The students create relationships with people from all over the world.”
