On June 17, Rachel Mawhirther and Regan Reif from the Barton County Young Professionals group spoke to the Great Bend Rotary club about their organization.
Formed in November 2011, the BCYP has grown to an over 750 member roster, comprising members age 21-40(ish). They focus on leadership, networking and volunteerism. They have quarterly mixers, family functions, luncheons and leadership workshops.
Their members participate in many area volunteer activities and projects, like partnering with the Rotary club and others in building the Tot Spot playground, in addition to putting together the United Way literacy kits, doing a charity supply drive and the YP 5 K and half marathon.
The latest projects are the BCYProud campaign and letting local businesses and groups sponsor upcoming events, giving the businesses excellent and ongoing recognition and exposure.
