Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Have genealogy questions? Bring them to the Reference desk during Genealogy Thursday today at 11 a.m. Come back this evening for Delicious Dishes at 6 p.m. Chefs of all experience levels are invited to learn how to make (and maybe even sample) Mini Dutch Babies. This tiny twist on warm, oven-baked pancakes is a delightful treat for cold, winter days.
On Friday we have Casual Game Friday in the Teen Spot from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Teens grades 6-12 can get together for a jam session with the Rock Band game series.
Love is a battlefield. Patrons 18 and up can come enjoy popcorn and a romantic action comedy film perfect for February during our Adults’ Night Out Movie this Friday at 7 p.m. “Marvin Gable is a Realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where ‘For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose, a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy. Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. With his brother Knuckles, a volatile crime lord, hunting him, Marvin must confront the choices that haunt him and the history he never truly buried.” The north doors will be open from 6:45-7:15 p.m. to allow entry for moviegoers.
We have another event exclusively for adults next Monday, Feb. 9. Starting at 10 a.m., play a round of Bingo for the chance to win some prizes. The first bingo card is free, but if you like the thrill of running multiple cards at a time, make a donation for up to four more (while supplies last)! Your generous donations will help fund this event and future rounds of bingo.
We have a full day of events on Tuesday, starting with Early Literacy Story Time at 10:30 a.m. This is an active time for little learners featuring early literacy skills, picture books, finger plays, songs, rhymes, music, art, and movement.
Do you have specific tech questions about your computer or phone? We can help! Bring your device by the Reference Desk starting at 11 a.m. for Tech Tuesday.
Find your local writing community at the Great Bend Public Library! Writers from the Barton County area are welcome to join us monthly on the second Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m. to share and work on their craft. Practice writing dialogue to develop character voice during February’s meeting.
The Department of Children and Families will be here at the library on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 1-4 p.m. to assist with Low Income Energy Assistance Program applications. A KanCare representative will also be present.
After that at 5 p.m., Cristi Gale from Barton Community College will present the next in the series of Computer Training classes: Demystifying Artificial Intelligence. “Curious about artificial intelligence but not sure where to start? Join us for a free, two-hour introductory workshop designed for the general public. We’ll break down what AI really is, how it works, and how it’s already shaping everyday life — no tech background required.” For more details, contact Kathy Kottas at 620-786-1107 or kottask@bartonccc.edu.
Next Thursday evening, turn hoops and cord into lovely macramé moon wall decorations at this month’s Adult Craft, starting at 6 p.m. Supplies are limited; first come, first served. The east entrance will be accessible until 6:15 p.m. to allow entrance.
