Iris Chang

LARNED — The community is invited to a free piano recital by Iris Chang at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at the Jordaan Club Room at the Larned Chamber of Commerce, 502 Broadway. The repertoire includes a complete sonata by Beethoven, a waltz and a nocturne by Chopin.

Born and raised in China, Iris Chang started piano lessons at 6 years old with a piano professor at a local university for nearly 13 years. From there, Chang earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Dalian Art Collage in Liaoning Province, northeast China, the top ranking non-governmental art college in the country.

To pursue further studies in classical music, do research on classical piano performance methods and learn about piano education and music styles in other countries, she decided on Fort Hays State University. This spring, Chang is finishing a Master of Music in Piano Performance degree. Her principal instructor is Dr. Irena Ravitskaya.

She plans to return to China as a professional piano teacher.

This recital highlights Ms. Chang’s youthful exuberance, yet polished and expressive pianistic style.
