STERLING – The Sterling College Art Center Gallery is currently displaying the exhibition entitled “Sights of Nepal,” by photographer Larry Brownlee. The exhibition features photographs from Brownlee’s trip to Nepal in 2010.

There will be an artist reception for Brownlee and his exhibit from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, The Sterling College Art Gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge for the Gallery.

Brownlee, who is the band director at Sterling College, has been an amateur photographer most of his life and has traveled extensively always with camera in hand. “It’s great to see how the arts come together and come alive in one person,” said Sterling College Arts Director Dennis Dutton. “Larry is a great example of someone who is an artist in more than one realm. He has made a career in music and teaching but also developed skills as an artist/photographer.”

Brownlee’s exhibit includes photographs of the people and places of the Himalayas, Kathmandu, and Mt. Everest. Also featured in the exhibit are musical instruments from the region such as a “singing bowl” – a brass bowl which has a wooden mallet that can be used to circle the rim creating a resonant ringing sound much like a water glass. The instruments are interactive, those attending are encouraged to play with the “singing bowl” and other instruments.
