Artwork by Shelly Pinto is on display at the Deines Cultural Center in Russell.

RUSSELL — Selected Works by Shelly Pinto will be on display Sept. 25 through Nov. 1 at the Deines Cultural Center, 820 N. Main Street in Russell. After graduating from KCAI with a painting degree and working at Hallmark Cards, Pinto co-founded with her husband a handmade paper company called Shizen Design. The company designs and sells screen print papers from India. She uses these papers in her mixed media paintings. The merging of the exotic surface patterns and the culture of India have imparted designs that blend together her history and cultural experiences to create a truly international and unique vision in her artwork.

Shelly grew up going to Russell to visit her grandparents as a small child. Her grandmother always wanted her to show her art at the Deines.

She is bringing a selection of her mixed media paintings to fulfill her grandmother’s wishes.

The galleries are open noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
