Spice it up in the month of March
Book Nook.jpg

Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! March is almost here, and that means we’ll be offering a new Spice of the Month. Starting Wednesday, March 1, you can pick up a pre-measured amount of paprika, along with a recipe to try and some interesting information about the spice. To continue our culinary theme, Miss Lisa, our resident librarian chef, will be teaching her Cheap Eats class next Thursday. Learn easy and delicious recipes that utilize budget-friendly staples, such as rice and beans. This class will start at 6 p.m., making it an after-hours event. This means the north doors will be open until 6:15 p.m. After that, they will be locked, and no one else will be permitted into the library, so be sure to get here on time. The same goes for both the Silver Screen Society Film Club on Thursday and the Adults’ Night Out Movie on Friday. Both start at 7 p.m., and the north doors will be open from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. to allow for entry.

This month’s Silver Screen Society pick is a newer release set in the 1950s and centers around Victory residents Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles) as they lead perfect lives. Jack heads to work every day, along with the other men of Victory, leaving their wives to stay at home where they clean, cook, and gossip with neighbors. But soon Alice starts to notice some not-so-perfect things about her life in the perfect town of Victory, and she must choose between her ideal home and the pursuit of truth.

Our Adults’ Night Out Movie this month is based on the best-selling book “Where the Crawdads Sing.” The story follows Kya, a young woman who raised herself in the North Carolina marshlands after being abandoned there by her mother when she was a little girl. She feels detached from the small-town community near the marshes, until two men show interest in her. However, when one of them later dies, she becomes the town’s prime suspect.

For kiddos we will start off the week with Messy Art Monday at 4 p.m. This series is dedicated to making art together by testing out new processes with different types of media. During this month’s installation, children  will get to paint with their fingers and learn cut-out techniques to make silhouette art. We will have Story Time as usual starting at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Tweens grades 4-6 can join us for March’s Tween Scene on Tuesday at 4 p.m. This month, check out our Builders, Assemble! program. Try out cup stacking and see who can stack the fastest!

For teens, don’t forget to sign up for TeenBookCrate between now until Saturday, March 4. To reserve your box, please visit the teen page on our website. Teens can come to the Teen Spot starting at 3:30 p.m. for Casual Game Friday. This month, join us for some Mario Kart 8 Deluxe racing action. Go head to head and avoid those blue shells in some friendly races with other teens!

Lastly, we have our all ages event, Cozy Crafts, on Saturday, March 4, at 11 a.m. Each participant will be able to make a fun Boho Wall Art piece to brighten up their space.
