Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! It’s almost time for our summer kick-off event on Friday, May 29, from 5-6 p.m! Come and play games on the lawn, try out our obstacle course, dig for fossils in our dig pit, and see live alpacas from Heartland Farms. And last but not least, get registered for our Dino-themed summer reading program for all ages and reading formats. You can track your minutes spent reading this June and July for the chance to win some fabulous prizes! The more you read, the better your chances are of bagging some spectacular summer swag.

But before we get to the kickoff, we still have a few things this week. This Thursday, the 21st, after our regularly scheduled Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m., we have Teen Manga and Anime Club at 5:30 p.m. Teens, new and seasoned anime fans, are invited to join our club. This time, we are watching the Studio Ghibli movie, “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.” “Far in the future, after an apocalyptic conflict has devastated much of the world’s ecosystem, the few surviving humans live in scattered semi-hospitable environments within what has become a “toxic jungle.” Young Nausicaä lives in the arid Valley of the Wind and can communicate with the massive insects that populate the dangerous jungle. Under the guidance of the pensive veteran warrior, Lord Yupa, Nausicaä works to bring peace back to the ravaged planet.” - Google

On Monday, we will be closed in observance of Memorial Day, so make sure to grab some extra books or DVDs for the long weekend before we close Saturday, or check out our digital offerings at hoopla and Libby.

Then, on Thursday, with one more day until the kick off, we have “M.A.S.H.” Trivia at Dry Lake. How much do you know about this classic TV show? Find out at our Trivia night starting at 7 p.m. Study up, free drinks, and prizes are on the line!

To see what else we are up to at the library, stop by and grab our summer newsletter so you can keep up to date on all the dino-tastic fun happening at the library this June through August.
