Come enjoy an afternoon of what an imagination can turn up in honor of a simple turnip.
Hudson is “turning up” new ideas for the 3rd Annual Hudson Turnip Festival starting at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 5th.  A new twist turning up will start with the “gatherin’ of the turnip”. Teams of two will be gathering with one as the “puller” and the other as the “sacker”.  This event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with everyone meeting at the Hudson Community Hall to ride the trolley (or drive) to undisclosed location.
There will be a soup luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hudson Community Hall. The soups of the day will be provided by the Wheatland Café and will be serving cream of potato broccoli soup and chili. Included with the meal will be bread cubes or crackers, dessert and a drink plus an opportunity to taste test of the Turnip Contest recipes.  The meal will be $6 a ticket with the ages of 4-10 half price and three and under free. RSVP by calling Barb at 620-458-4001 or Marilyn at 620-458-4411 before Nov. 3rd or email alpersbk@gmail.com
The Turnip Cook-off Contest will begin with registration at 11:30 a.m. with judging beginning at noon. Find one, two or three delicious recipes using turnips and bring the finished items to the contest. (Attach your recipe to each item.)
Bring your decorated turnip head by 12:30 p.m. for judging and display. The contest will be divided into a child and adult category. No limitation on what your turnip will be accessorized with.
Turn up your creative thinking and capture that perfect poem or song to bring to the Open Mic at the Turnip Poet’s Corner. Three rules apply:  1) Use the words turnip or turn up. 2) Be at least four lines long. 3) An original presentation. The judging will begin at 1 p.m.
There will be a table set up for the sale of the collectable Hudson Turnip Shirts and a recipe book of previous turnip recipes.  All proceeds from the day will be used to help sponsor Hudson’s 125th Anniversary celebration in 2012.
