Barton Community College Athletic Director Trevor Rolfs brought a couple of hefty trophies with him when he attended Tuesday’s BCC Board of Trustees meeting.

In 2017-2018, Barton Athletics finished third in the NATYCAA (National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators) Cup Standings, Rolfs said. Points are awarded for combined success at the regional and national levels for all sports programs each college offers.

“The third-place finish (last year) was the highest ever for Barton Athletics since the inception of athletics at the college,” Rolfs said. “Combining this across the board success with Barton’s 57 NJCAA National Team Titles was special.

“In 2018-2019, Barton CC Athletics improved on the above by finishing second in the NATYCAA Cup Standings amongst all other two-year colleges who offer scholarships.”

Rolf also bragged about the student-athletes’ academics at a recent Great Bend Kiwanis Club presentation.

“In 2017-2018 Barton Community College Athletics had five teams win the NJCAA Academic Team Championship for the highest combined GPA (grade-point average). It is rare that a single team accomplishes this feat and Barton had five in one year,” he said.

“In 2018-2019, Barton Athletics had 76 individuals achieve Academic All-American status. That is the most in a single year in the history of the college. As we continue living our mission in Barton Athletics of developing student athletes athletically, academically, & socially, the proof is in the pudding!”
