The Barton County Clerk’s Office is now offering advance ballots applications for the Nov. 8 general election. Advance voting is now available.

Important general election voting deadlines:

• Tuesday, Oct. 27: Deadline to apply for advanced ballots to be mailed.

• Monday, noon Nov. 7: Deadline for voters to vote advanced ballots in person in the County Clerk/Election Office on the second floor of the Barton County Courthouse.

• Tuesday, Nov. 8: Deadline for sick/disabled/illiterate voters to apply for an advanced voting ballot.

• Tuesday, Nov. 8:  Advanced ballots must be returned to the County Clerk’s Office or to a voter’s polling location by 7 p.m.

Registered voters in Barton County may now vote in advance for the Tuesday, Nov. 8, general election at the County Clerk’s Office, and it is also time for those wanting to apply for advanced ballots to do so, said County Clerk Bev Schmeidler, who also serves as the county election officer.

She provided the following voting guidelines:

• Any registered voter who has declared a party may contact Schmeidler’s office on the second floor of the Barton County Courthouse by mail, phone or in person, for an application for an advanced voting ballot. Anyone requesting an advanced ballot must provide photo ID.

• If voting by mail, a voter will need to include their driver’s license number on their application, she said.

• Applications may also be downloaded from the County Clerk’s website at www.bartoncounty.org/elections/advancevote.

• Signed applications may be delivered or mailed to the County Clerk’s Office or faxed to 620-793-1990. Upon receipt of a completed and signed application, Schmeidler’s office will provide the elector with an advanced ballot for the general election.

• An elector cannot apply for a ballot for another voter.

• Voters can cast their ballots in the Barton County Clerk’s Office until noon on the day preceding the election.

• An application for an advanced ballot for someone who is sick/disabled/illiterate may be filed during the regular advanced ballot application period until the close of polls on the day of the election, she said. All advanced ballots must be delivered to the Schmeidler’s office before the close of the polls on election day.

Affidavits of Assistance forms are available to assist another elector in the application and voting processes.

• A registered voter no longer has to be “sick or disabled” or “out of the county” on the day of the election in order to vote in advance of the election.

Ballots will not be counted until election day.
