A Great Bend man told police he was hit with a bat and robbed of cash around 3 a.m. Saturday at the Baltzell Motel, 705 10th St. The man called police shortly before 9 a.m. At that time he also identified his alleged attacker, saying they were arguing over money. He was reportedly hit in the knee with a small baseball bat, and then his wallet was taken.
At 8:42 p.m., a “concerned neighbor” who did not give his or her name reported that the suspect was in the street on 8th Street, yelling.
Detective David Bailey said the suspect eluded police that night, but was arrested Monday on unrelated charges. A case was sent to the Barton County Attorney’s Office, which will decide whether charges will be filed in this incident.
