Almost time to party in the park
new re party
It is once again time to have fun in the park, Party In The Park will be Saturday with events starting at 9 a.m. and running all day. This picture from last years Party In The Park shows people running the Tuff Enuff Obstacle Course event.

Everyone loves a great party and right here in Great Bend there is a party planned for this weekend. That’s right, it is time for Party In the Park and it will be held at Veterans Park this Saturday.
“This event is very important to the community,” Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said. “It is great for the quality of life for the community and it also can be something that Great Bend can be known for. We have people from all over Kansas calling us and wanting to register for the different events that will be going on during the party.”
According to Hayes, each year the party gets bigger and better and this year is no exception.
Along with the events that have been a part of the Party in the past, there are two new events that will be taking place. These are the canoe and kayak races that will take place on Vets Lake starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
“We are excited to have these two new events,” Hayes said. “We were not able to have them in the past due to the condition of the lake.”
And of course there are some of the favorites like the Tuff Enuff Obstacle Run starting at 9 a.m., Oozefest Mud Volleyball starting at 9:30 a.m., dog park fun starting at 10:30 a.m., car show from 1 to 5 p.m., Twinkie Eating Contest starting at 3 p.m. and the Kids Fun Zone starting at 11 a.m. The flyer for the event stated that Kids Fun Zone event started at 2 p.m. but it will start at 11 a.m.
There is even more fun to be had Saturday evening at the party--live music. The bands this year include: Ricky Fuggit and Paramount. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the first band will start playing at 6:30 p.m.
Following the live music there will be a firework display starting at approximately 10 p.m.
Coolers will be allowed in the park all day, with only 3.2 beer and malt beverages permitted and a no-glass restriction.

The American Legion Riders of Post 180 will be providing security and checking coolers during the concert.
