CLAFLIN — A Budweiser delivery truck recently unloaded 196 cases of canned beverages at Claflin Fire District No. 1, but it wasn’t beer, Fire Chief Doug Hubbard said. The fire district received a grant from Anheuser-Busch through the Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters program. The grant included cases of canned drinking water which will be loaded to coolers on each truck to help firefighters stay hydrated on fire calls.
“The cans are white and say ‘water’ on them along with the A-B logo,” Hubbard said. “We’ve had a few questions already, as you may imagine.”
Drinking water is used directly for firefighter comfort and safety, Hubbard noted.
Claflin Fire District No. 1 covers the townships of Cheyenne, Logan, Independent and Cleveland and responds to assist other neighboring departments. The fire district also provides fire protection for the Cheyenne Bottoms Wetlands Center along with other city, county and state infrastructure.
