The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for section of central Kansas, including Barton, Russell, Ellsworth and McPherson counties.


WICHITA — The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for sections of central Kansas, including Barton, Russell, Ellsworth and McPherson counties.The Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m Saturday.
Cities included are Great Bend, Russell, Sylvan Grove, Beverly, Barnard, Ellsworth, Wilson, Salina, Lyons, Sterling, McPherson, Hillsboro, Marion, Peabody, Cottonwood Falls and Strong City.
A winter disturbance will approach the area late Friday into early Saturday morning. Snow may develop over portions of central Kansas just prior to sunrise. The Winter Weather Advisory will begin at 4 a.m. Saturday.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of winter weather will cause travel difficulties. be prepared for slippery road and limited visibilities. use caution while driving.
• Snow will begin over central Kansas early Saturday morning moving eastward through the day. The heaviest period of snow will be through the first half of Saturday.
• Areas of snow reaching 2 to 4 inches of snow will be possible generally north of U.S. 50 in central kansas.
• Caution is advised as snow accumulation could cause roadways to be slick.
Snow that begins late Friday and early Saturday will continue through Saturday before diminishing Saturday evening across much of south central and central Kansas.
A trace to 2 inches will be possible across south central and southeast kansas with 2 to 4 inches possible over central Kansas mainly north of U.S. 50.
The heaviest amounts will be along i-70 and into northeastern Kansas.
Another area of snow will move over the area late saturday into Sunday. small additional accumulations are possible.
Wind chills will likely fall to zero to 5 below across parts of central Kansas early Sunday and Monday mornings.
