The Barton County NAACP Branch 428 will celebrate their Freedom Fund Banquet and Fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Street, in Great Bend. The public is invited.
Main speaker will be Dr. Terrell Davis, from Wichita. Dr. Davis was born in Tulsa, Okla. He is married to Carrie Davis and has two sons, Terrell D. II and Cameron M. Davis. Dr. Davis is Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in communications from Sterling College, and a Master of Arts Education from Newman University Wichita. He taught speech, debate, and drama in the Hutchinson Public School System for three years. During that tenure he coached football, baskeball, and track. Dr. Davis was the only black head coach of Stafford High School from 1998 to 2000. He was a former Principal at Mayberry Cultural and Fine Arts Middle Magnet School where they had the fastest and largest academic turn-around of any school in Kansas, the largest math improving student achievement in every category, and showing largest gain in math, increasing by 23.5% in one year, and math scores by over 40% in a two year span. Dr.Davis also has many other accomplishments.
