BCC Jazz to join Flatland Big Band at Scott City
1-Tribune

SCOTT CITY — The Flatland Big Band will present its annual concert at Scott Community High School on May 5. The Band was founded by former director Julie Groom. They have met on the first weekend of May since 1994 — 24 years!
This select group is comprised of band directors and professional musicians from across the state. The Band gathers to practice in the morning and then presents a top-notch concert for their audience’s enjoyment that same evening.
Groom, who taught at Colby Community College and Atwood High School, as well as other area schools, bequeathed the leadership of the band to Clint Raynes upon her death in 2012. Raynes is a well-known jazz musician, adjudicator and clinician across the state of Kansas.
The Barton County Community College Jazz Band will also perform. The BCCC Jazz Band is under the direction of Steve Lueth who is also the pianist for the Flatland Band.
The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Scott Community High School. A $5 admission fee will be requested at the door to defray expenses and provide for the continued existence of this group.
Lodging information is available at the Scott City website www.scottcityks.org.
