Blizzard warning issued for northwest Kansas
Interstate 70 closed at border
goodland
Six northwest counties in Kansas are under a blizzard warning.

GOODLAND -- At mid-afternoon, Goodland has snow with north winds blowing from 38 to 51 mph. Interstate 70 was closed at the Colorado border to mile marker 17. K-36 heading into Kansas was also closed at the Colorado border. More than a foot of snow was forecast in the Goodland area.

A strong winter storm system will move into the region early this morning and continue into the evening hours. Rain should change over to snow in eastern Colorado near sunrise. This transition to snow will progress eastward into southwestern Nebraska and northwestern Kansas throughout the morning. Heavy snowfall is expected. Very strong north winds with gusts of 45 to 60 mph will produce whiteout conditions and reduced visibilites. Blowing and drifting snow will be possible, creating hazardous driving conditions and leading to road closures.
