Since the scavenger hunt was a hit with children and volunteers at last year’s Camp Hope, it is on the schedule again.
Younger Camp Hope participants will be off on the hunt for a number of prizes, while their friends take a swing at a game of golf. Camp organizers are seeking volunteers for both the golf outing and the scavenger hunt, which are scheduled for Wednesday, June 19.
Camp Hope, an annual week-long event in Barton County, is designed for children who have had or do have cancer.
“Our golf tournament has been popular for many years, especially for the older kids,” Coordinator Jane Isern said. “And now we have learned that the younger ones really like this scavenger hunt. We urgently need volunteers for both events.”
The scavenger hunt is designed for children 9 and younger, who will search for goodies around the driving range, swimming pool and grounds at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Great Bend. It will begin at 10 a.m. and at least 10 volunteers are needed to accompany the children. A $15 fee covers lunch at Stone Ridge for the volunteer and a child.
The shotgun-start golf tournament is set for 9 a.m. and at least 36 volunteers are needed; each is asked to pay $30. This fee covers lunch for the volunteer and one camper, and the cost of cart rental.
“Our Camp Hope events have been so successful over the years directly because of our volunteers,” Isern commented. “We trust that local and area residents will come through for us again.
“If you talk to any of our past volunteers, I think they will tell similar stories about this special day,” Isern added. “Spending time with these great kids is so rewarding. The adults benefit just as much as the campers do.”
