Candidates to square off at LWV forum
Event set for Tuesday at Crest Theater

 The League of Women Voter’s of Great Bend will present a candidate’s forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Crest Theater, 1905 Lakin in Great Bend. It is free and the public is invited, said Becky Dudrey of the LWV. 

Candidates who have someone running in opposition will be on the forum. The candidates who will be running unopposed will also be present to introduce themselves. Rose Kelly will be the moderator of the event.

All of the candidates for all of the races have been invited to attend and participate, Dudrey said.

Questions have been prepared by the League members and have not been distributed to the candidates previous to the forum. The candidates will draw their questions on the stage.

No questions will be taken from the audience. However, audience members may speak to any of the candidates during the intermission or after the forum.

Candidates participating in the forum will be: Running unopposed are: Barton County Commission- Don Davis 3rd district; Barton County Attorney - Amy Schartz Mellor; Barton County Register of Deeds - Pam Wornkey; Barton County Clerk - Donna Zimmerman; Barton County Sheriff - Brian Bellendir; Barton County Treasurer - James E. Jordan; and Kansas House of Representatives 112th - District Tory Arnberger. 

Running opposed are: Barton County Commission 2nd district - Homer Kruckenberg, the Hon. Hannelora Kitts and Sharon Wondra; Kansas House of Representatives 113th District - Jon Prescott and Gregg Lewis; Kansas Senate 33 District - Matt Bristow, Larry Salmons and Mary Jo Taylor.

League is a non-partisan organization devoted to the education of the voting public on issues of local state, and national importance. 

The league offered this reminder: Come election time, voters must present proper identity documents to vote.
