Highway-Patrol

A Lyons woman was taken to Rice County Hospital Thursday after the vehicle she was riding in hit a deer, 5 miles east of Lyons on U.S. 56. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred at 6:34 a.m. when the deer entered the road from the north ditch.
Donald L. Griffitts, 77, of Wichita was driving the westbound, 2010 Mazda passenger car that struck the deer. He was not injured. Passenger Erica Marie Jaime, 35, of Lyons sustained possible injury and was taken to the hospital by private vehicle. Both were wearing seat belts.
