ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood School/Community Library is hosting an art display by Alyssa Bliven, and will also host Chamber Coffee on Friday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m., for Alyssa to share about her work. Alyssa Rose Bliven is a 27 year old artist currently working in Great Bend. She works in several different mediums but is focusing on fibers and found object art in this show. Alyssa grew up in Juanita, Neb., where she lived until she attended college at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. At HC she studied biology until she changed her major to studio art with an emphasis in sculpture. Alyssa then moved to Michigan to complete her Master of Fine Arts at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills just outside of Detroit.
There Alyssa studied under Iris Eichenberg in the metalsmithing department. Upon graduating with her MFA, Alyssa moved to Great Bend following her husband, Joseph Bliven. Alyssa has been living, working, and enjoying central Kansas for almost three years now. In the near future she plans to expand her studio practice back into metals while keeping her fiber and found object knowledge.
