The Great Bend Events Center will soon be getting a new look after action by the City Council Monday night.
The council authorized DMA Architects to move forward with the design and specifications for the improvements to the front of the center. This involves the removal of the current pillars, the installation of a new canopy and changes in the parking.
After the work, the center will have about eight fewer parking places. But,the drainage will be improved so those entering the building won’t have to wade through standing rain water.
However, City Administrator Howard Partington stressed that he would present the plans to the council when ready. At that time, letting the project out for bids would be discussed.
The council also authorized city staff to seek bids for heating and air improvements to the office building at the Events Center. Again, Partington said the council will have to sign off on any spending.
