With National Wellness Month coming up in August, Clara Barton Medical Center is taking the initiative to promote a simple yet effective way to improve overall health – walking.
With no specialized equipment required, just a good pair of shoes, a little motivation, and a safe place to move, walking offers numerous health benefits. To encourage community members to adopt this healthy habit, Clara Barton Medical Center is inviting the public to participate in a 12-week walking program, from Aug. 6 through Oct. 28. This program will utilize the new walking trail located at their Great Bend clinic, at 906 McKinley.
According to the American Heart Association, dedicating 150 minutes per week to walking can help maintain good health, said Clara Barton’s Karla Crissman. Recognizing the significance of this recommendation, Clara Barton Medical Center has partnered with several local businesses to amplify the benefits of walking.
Throughout the program, participants will have the opportunity to enter a weekly drawing to win a swag bag filled with goodies donated by business partners: Sonic, Coldwell Banker, Dillons, First Kansas Bank, Walmart, Pizza Hut, Everything Under the Son, The Reserves at Trail Ridge, and Kelly’s Garden Sense.
To participate, simply follow these steps:
1) Take a photo of yourself walking along the Clara Barton Walking Trail at 906 McKinley.
2) Share your photo on Facebook and tag @ClaraBartonMedicalCenter. You can also email your photo to kcrissman@cbhks.com to be entered to win.
Whether you are looking to kick-start your journey to a healthier lifestyle or wish to maintain your existing walking routine, Clara Barton Medical Center welcomes individuals of all ages and fitness levels to embrace this walking challenge, she said. The Clara Barton Walking Trail is accessible to the public 24/7, and for every four laps completed, you’ll have accomplished one mile toward your fitness goals.
As an added incentive, if 100 individuals participate, there will be a drawing for a $100 cash prize.
