A contract for Jonathan Reeder to become the new head swim coach at Barton Community College was approved Tuesday by the BCC Board of Trustees.
The board also approved position changes for Charles Perkins and Michelle Kaiser. Perkins has been serving as dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Information Services, which will now become two separate positions. His new title is dean of Institutional Effectiveness. Kaiser, who was assistant dean of Information Services, was named dean of Information Services.
The college has also filled a long-vacant position for a nursing instructor, Susan Bauer, as well as a custodian, Jeff Gardner.
Two positions were filled for the Fort Riley campus; Jessica Blasengame was hired as a customer service representative and Kimberly Simpkins was hired as a program manager.

Title IX report
The college has a new position open for a Title IX coordinator, to oversee compliance with Title IX Civil Rights legislation that protects students from sex-based discrimination in educational programs and activities.
Stephanie Joiner, BCC’s interim Title IX coordinator, reported that attention directed to Title IX standards has increased.
“Institutions have renewed focus on their methods of receiving, documenting and investigation reports of sex-based discrimination as well as providing resources for any student who reports under Title IX,” according to her report. “At Barton, this focus is being consistently assessed and evaluated by the Sexual Misconduct & Assault Resource Team — SMART.”
SMART brought national speaker Katie Koestner to the campus in January. In addition to campus climate, the team also looks at consistent and ongoing educational efforts, policy and procedures, and resources such as the Family Crisis Center.

Other business
The board also approved the purchase of a coach bus from Riley’s Bus Tours/MCI, for $155,000. Dean of Administration Mark Dean provided information about the used bus earlier this month. He was able to negotiate a price that included getting the green bus repainted in white.
A resolution was adopted to extend the terms of three trustees by six months, due to the Kansas Legislature doing away with general elections in April. Trustees John Moshier, Don Learned and Leonard Bunselmeyer would have been up for reelection in April, with new and reelected trustees sworn in at the June meeting. Now, trustees elected or reelected in November will be sworn in at the January 2018 meeting.
