The Barton County Health Department’s second-annual Community Baby Shower took place Thursday afternoon in downtown Great Bend’s Jack Kilby Square. Funded through a state grant, the free event showcased 23 vendors, including those from the Family Crisis Center, United Healthcare Community Plan, Great Bend Public Library, United Way of Central Kansas and Sunflower Early Education. There were demonstrations and quizzes, and the exhibitors had 40 portable cribs, baby sleep sacks, smoke detectors and other baby-related supplies to give away. In addition, there were relay games for dads, immunizations and children’s activities. Pictured are scenes from the event, which was intended for new and expectant parents, support people, and community service providers.
