SUSANK — A fire Wednesday in Susank was caused by a controlled burn that restarted, according to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Sierra Thorne reports being dispatched to 100 Kansas Ave. in Susank at 11:41 p.m. Tuesday. She learned that a controlled burn was authorized earlier in the day for James E. Price to burn stumps. “The fire started back up, catching grass and numerous structures (sheds),” Thorne reported. “The roof of an abandoned residence and a pile of tree limbs in the back of a pickup also caught fire.”
The fire was extinguished by responders from the Hoisington Fire Department and Beaver Fire Department. The electric company was notified.
