Better streets have long been a goal of the Great Bend City Council and to this end, it approved additional Street Work for 2016 when it met Monday night.
“As discussed at the (council’s June) budget work session, staff has been identifying additional streets to resurface this year,” City Administrator Howard Partington said. He presented a list and referred to a city map with the routes highlighted.
In the end, council members authorize Mayor Mike Allison to sign a contract with Venture Corporation in the amount of $567,332 for the additional street work on residential and arterial streets.
This includes a two-inch mill and overlay on:
• Odell from Seventh to Eighth
• Morphy from Seventh to 10th
• Eight from Adams to Washington
• Madison from Eighth to Ninth
• Lakin from Odell to Morton
• Mckinley from 12th to Broadway
• Coronado: from Paseo to Paseo
• 10th from the west city limits to Patton
• Veterans Memorial Park parking Lots
One-Inch overlay and patching at
• Brit Spaugh Park from Williams To Morton
Manhole adjustments on:
• Lakin from Odell to Morton
• Broadway from Jefferson to east of Washington
• Coronado from Paseo to Paseo
• In the Vets Park parking lots
This marks the second round of street repairs this year. The Council on June 6 approved work on almost 90 blocks identified as problems in 2015 and improvements to the Great Bend Municipal Airport runway.
This work was also done by Venture. The total cost of the earlier project, including the airport improvement,was $1,277,371.50.
The street repairs for 2016 will be paid for out of the Federal Fund Exchange money, the half cent city sales tax, and money from the quarter cent sales tax.
