The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Tuesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.
The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/.The meeting will be recorded.
The agenda includes the recognition of outgoing Councilman Junior Welsch, the swearing in of a new council member, the election of a new council president, a public hearing for an unsafe and dangerous property at 205 Frey, and a work session on the property abatement process.
The commission
The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.
It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes a public hearing on the Solid Waste Management Plan and approval of it, a resolution to change the day of the week that the commission meets, an amendment to the Facade Improvement Grant programs, the designation of county fund depositories, the 2022 Kansas Association of Counties membership and the 2022 The Kansas Legislative Policy Group membership.
After the agenda meeting, the following appointments are scheduled:
• 10 a.m. – repair of a Cat 826K compactor at the landfill with Solid Waste Director Phil Hathcock.
• 10:30 a.m. – Health and Human Services Phase 4 funding with Health Director Karen Winkelman.
• 10:45 a.m. – grant update with Grant and Compliance Manager Sue Cooper.
• 11:15 a.m. – regular business discussion with Director of Operations Matt Patzner.
