County Commission to canvass votes, hold budget hearings Monday

The Barton County Commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, in Room 106 of the Barton County Courthouse at 1400 Main in Great Bend. Commissioners will canvass the ballots from the Aug. 4 primary election.

The county budget hearing and agenda meeting will be held immediately following the canvass. It is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. The Fire District No. 1 budget hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. during the agenda meeting.

The commission and administration reviewed the budget requests for the 2021 operating year, submitted by elected officials and department heads, and drafted a balanced operating budget. The proposed 2021 Operating Budget will be presented to receive public comment. Phil Hathcock, county administrator, will present details.

Items on the agenda following the budget hearing include the adoption of the budget; review of capital improvement and equipment replacement plans and renewal of the service agreement with Southwest Developmental Services Inc. as the Community Developmental Disability Organization.
