RICE COUNTY — A combination of strong winds and dry brush are forcing flare-ups of a large grass fire that started Sunday in the southeast part of rural Rice County.

Firefighting crews continued to battle pockets of fire Tuesday morning, according to Rice County Emergency Management. The fire was reportedly 50-60% contained on Monday.

On Sunday, a game preserve was damaged by the blaze. According to KWCH, minor damage was reported to a building but the greatest impact was to a beehive on the property. Roughly 1,800 acres were burned while backfires were set by crews to better manage the flames.
