Robert J. Dole Veterans Administration Medical Center is hosting an event in Great Bend to assist Veterans across Barton County with understanding VA services available to them, getting enrolled for VA health care, and begin the process of filing disability claims.
The outreach event will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at American Legion Post 180, 1011 Kansas Avenue, in Great Bend.
Short education sessions are planned for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Representatives from Dole VA’s Health Benefits Department, Veteran Benefits Administration, and service officers from Veterans Service Organizations will be available throughout the designated time to process actions.
“There are about a thousand Veterans in Barton County who are not enrolled for VA health care,” said Jeff Herndon, public affairs officer for Dole VA. “We want to ensure Veterans are receiving every benefit they have earned, and we want to make it as easy as possible for them to get enrolled.”
Veterans should bring a copy of their DD-214 and most-recent tax return to expedite enrollment and claims. Dependents and family members of Veterans are also invited to attend.
