The annual Dominican Sisters of Peace Bazaar is a longtime tradition in Great Bend, with funds raised going to missions in Nigeria and to help the needy.
The sisters were unable to have their bazaar this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but they offered a drawing for prizes that yielded unprecedented results, according to Sister Eloise Hertel, OP.
“The COVID virus prevented our traditional on-site bazaar this year, but on Saturday morning (Nov. 14) there was still a flurry of activity as many online and daily mail requests were still bringing in more names for raffle tickets,” she said. “We were absolutely astounded by the ticket requests that came through the prior weeks.
“The usual ticket tumbler was exchanged for a horse tank, and it held over 100,000 tickets. We are grateful to all of you in Great Bend and the surrounding region for your overwhelming support through your donations. The missions and the economic poor will benefit from your generosity.”
