Driver swerved to miss deer

A passenger in a car was injured Saturday at the driver swerved to miss a deer and lost control of the vehicle, Kansas Highway Patrol reports.
The accident occurred at 9:10 p.m. in the 800 block of NE 10 Ave., about 2.5 miles southeast of Hoisington.
The 1998 Nissan Altima driven by Alexis R. Mattheyer, 20, of Ellis entered the ditch and struck an embankment. The driver was not injured. Passenger Nathan D. Hilleguist, 24, Great Bend, was taken to Clara Barton Hospital with undetermined injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
The car was removed by Marshall’s to a tow lot.
