Folks who attend the Fraternal Order of Eagles’ Pancake Feed on Thursday will get more than just a good meal, Eagles member Corry Herrman said. It is a fundraiser for the FOE Diabetes Research Center.

The cost for the meal is $5.50 per person, and includes sausage or bacon as well a pancakes, Herrman said. Serving will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m., upstairs in the Eagles lodge at 11th and Main. "This is open to the public," Herrman said. "Remember, Eagles is all about ‘People helping people.’"

Nationwide, members of the FOE have pledged $25 million over five years (starting in 2008) to fund the new Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Search Center at the University of Iowa. The gift will fund a state-of-the-art research facility staffed with world-class medical researchers to help bring an end to this disease which affects 27 million Americans and Canadians each year.

"Our Great Bend Eagles No. 646 want to do our part and help raise money for this worthy cause by our members’ generous donations and fundraisers we generate in the club," Herrman said.
